Nicosia, Cyprus, November 13, 2018 – The Institute For the Future (IFF) at the University of Nicosia announces its partnership with PumaPay, a Cyprus-based blockchain project focusing on development of the innovative PullPayment Protocol. PumaPay becomes a founding member of the Institute for the Future, a new interdisciplinary research center of the University of Nicosia that aims to expand the understanding of blockchain and AI as well as their effective integration, contributing to their effective application in industry, government, education and society in general. IFF’s vision is to become a leading academic research center spearheading interdisciplinary research and innovation across Cyprus, the EU and the world.

PumaPay is developing a unique payment protocol that will enable merchants to easily accept payments in cryptocurrency with the convenience and versatility of payment scenarios currently only available via credit cards, such as recurring payments. By bringing this convenience to the blockchain, PumaPay aims to redefine the payments system. Multiple global brands, have already committed to implementing the PumaPay solution, including Wix, Fashion TV, Rent24, IronFX, to name a few.

The University of Nicosia (UNIC) was among the first universities in the world to embrace the technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, including the blockchain. The University has launched the first-ever Masters’ Programme in Digital Currency (MSc) and keeps advancing its academic studies and research of the blockchain and related fields.

‘Blockchain technology holds great promise for the future – not just in payments, but in nearly every sphere of our life. As we develop our innovative payment solution, in the way that has never been done before, we consult with the brightest minds and latest research of this new industry. We see ourselves as a bridge between the academic research and real-world practical application of the blockchain technology as we develop our payment solution’, says PumaPay CEO Yoav Dror.

‘We are excited to welcome PumaPay as a Founding Member of the Institute For the Future. As IFF aspires to become a leading source of research and technology development at the intersection of exponential technologies, including blockchain, it is essential to bring together both large corporations and innovative start-ups working on these technologies. We expect PumaPay’s expertise in blockchain-based payment protocols, coupled with the know-how of our other corporate and academic members, to contribute significantly to realizing IFF’s vision’ says George Giaglis, Director of IFF at the University of Nicosia.

About IFF:

The Institute For the Future (IFF) is a research institute at the University of Nicosia (UNIC). IFF was founded to explore the hypothesis that technological progress will cause rapidly accelerating societal change over the coming decades. A wide range of technologies – blockchain, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, nanotechnology, robotics, augmented and virtual reality, drones, decentralized autonomous organizations, computational medicine, the internet of things, autonomous vehicles – will start reaching commercial viability by 2020. Each of these technologies would be individually disruptive. In aggregate, these technologies will have a compounding effect on the economy, social structures, legal systems, income distribution, governance, education, and warfare – and raise fundamental questions on how society is organized. The goal is to push students, faculty (at our University and others), policy-makers and business leaders to prepare for these changes and aim for societally beneficial outcomes. The Institute’s mission is interdisciplinary by nature and it works across Schools and Departments to support academic programs, research, training and conferences. Given the emerging nature of these fields, it strongly welcomes collaborations with other universities and organizations interested in similar areas.
