Undecided EUR/USD Trend

The European currency is below 1.28, which is a bearish signal; however, it’s above 1.27, which is a bullish signal; using different technical indicators. So, it’s moving both sides and waiting for a trend to be applied.

The German Producer Price Index (PPI) is scheduled for release today, measuring the change in the price of goods sold by manufacturers.

Forecast: 0.1%

Previous: -0.1%

A higher than expected reading should be taken as positive for the EUR, while a lower than expected reading should be taken as negative for the EUR.

The Current Account index will be also released, measuring the difference in value between exported and imported goods, services and interest payments during the reported month. The goods portion is similar to the monthly Trade Balance figure. This data can strongly affect the Euro, as foreigners have to buy the domestic currency to pay for the exports.

Forecast: 18.3B

Previous: 32.3B

A higher than expected reading should be taken as positive for the Euro, while a lower than expected reading should be taken as negative for the Euro.

Moving to the Net investment flow, we can see that the Euro area balance of payments statistics are compiled by gathering gross cross-border transactions of Euro area residents versus Non-Euro area residents. This was reported by the 11 participating countries.

Transactions between residents of the participating Member States are ignored. For statistical purposes, the EU institutions (but not the ECB itself) are treated as Non-Euro area residents.

The concepts used in Euro area balance of payments and international investment position statistics are based on current international and European standards, as the 5th edition of the IMF Balance of Payments Manual and the operational systematic rules, approved by the ECB and the European Commission (Eurostat), have been widely unified among national compilers.

Forecast: N/A
