Recently, MetaTrader5 platform has been upgraded to 1325 build and surprised some traders, because the new version finally features the hedging option. But on the other hand, it’s difficult to say whether this option may be a reason for traders to switch from MT4 to MT5.



It's no secret that MetaTrader5 is more technically advanced platform if compared with MetaTrader4. Its main "features" are an opportunity to test trading robots on a real tick history and place more complicated pending orders, the speed of MQL-programs execution, which is many times higher in comparison with MT4, connection to the MQL5 Cloud Network distributed calculations system, etc. Despite all these innovations, most traders still prefer to trade through MetaTrder4, which is more familiar and proven over time.



However, we should note that after MetaQuotes Software Corp announced the hedging option in MetaTrader5, most clients prefer to open new trading accounts based on this platform. Overall, the number of newly registered MT5-based accounts has increased by 63% and the trading volume on all MT5-based accounts – by approximately 45%.



In our opinion, such growth was caused not by the addition of the hedging option alone. Now clients have an opportunity to compare two platforms without talking into account the position accounting system. And if you rate them on how technological and up-to-date they are, MT5 clearly has a competitive edge here.



Nowadays, MetaTrder4 platform is still more popular with traders. However, we think that taking into account technological superiority, flexibility, and "multimarketness" of MT5, the industry’s transition from MT4 to MT5 is just a matter of time.
