My Thoughts on the Current COVID-19 Pandemic

My 3 thoughts on the current COVID-19 pandemic at the individual, organisational and global level:⁣

1) Individual⁣

Please take extra care and caution when it comes to personal hygiene. Wash your hands often with soap. Practice social distancing and raise your levels of self-awareness. Touching microphones during interviews and licking grilles or shrines is ignorant at best and downright dangerous at worst.⁣

2) Organisational⁣

If you have physical offices and staff, it is your moral duty to ensure that premises are kept clean and that your people's health remain a priority. Have robust Business Continuity Planning (BCP) initiatives like segregating teams, working from home and having online meetings instead of physical ones. If your business is severely affected by the pandemic, always remember that tough times never last but tough people do. Your story will be the inspiration others need when they are about to throw in the towel. ⁣

3) Global⁣

Sectors like airlines, retail and hospitality are haemorrhaging. Financial markets are bleeding. The Dow just plunged 3,000 points to record the second-largest daily percentage loss in history. Just for the record, the VIX reached an all-time high of 80.74 during the global financial crisis on 21st November 2008. Today it is hovering between 82-83. ⁣

Is there danger? Of course. Are there opportunities? Absolutely. Get yourself educated before you take action. The worst you can do is to jump in simply because of the fear of missing out (FOMO).⁣

My last thought to summarise all 3 points above. It's not the COVID-19 that's most lethal. It's not even the fear and panic it's causing worldwide. It's INDIFFERENCE. Indifference can and will kill you when you lack the basic sympathy, care and concern for yourself and your fellow human being. ⁣

All through centuries, what has pushed the human race forward has, and always will be, our indomitable spirit. We must stand together. ⁣
