Expert's opinion from FXFinPro

Retail sales in the UK rose by 2.3%

Today was published important statistics on retail sales in the UK, which increased by 2.3% in January against the forecast of growth by 0.8% and a decrease of 1.4% in the previous period. It is worth noting that this increase is associated with discounts after the holidays. Despite this, the British pound fell against the background of the lack of results in the EU and the UK talks about keeping of the country within the EU. According to our forecasts, the consensus will be reached that will lead to an increase in the British pound. We expect strong price movements in the near future and maintain the medium-term negative outlook, with the target 1.4000, despite a possible strong growth to 1.5000.
