U.S. dollar higher before Trump's speech

Weekly synopsis

The U.S. dollar traded upper versus its main counterparts last Friday, as the traders and the investors await for Donald Trump's speech, following the negative data on home sales.

U.S. dollar index to 100.12

The U.S. dollar index traded to 100.12 rising 0.17%. The nation's new home sales approached the 555,000 units rising 3.7%, lower compared to the predictions for an increase of 6.3% to 570,000.

The EUR/USD traded at 1.0556 weakening 0.19%, the sterling to 1.2461 declining 0.76%, and the USD/JPY to 112.08 falling 0.4%.

Weekly major events

On Monday, Robert Kaplan, Dallas FED President, will be giving a speech in Oklahoma, while the U.S. is to publish its pending home sales and durable goods orders data.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump will be addressing to the Congress for the first time, and James Bullard, St. Louis FED President, and John Williams, San Francisco FED President are to give a speech. New Zealand will be releasing its business confidence and trade data, and the U.S. its consumer confidence and growth data for quarter 4.

On Wednesday, Germany will be publishing its unemployment change report, the U.K its bank lending and manufacturing index data, China its service and manufacturing sector activity, and Australia its fourth quarter growth. Lael Brainard, FED Governor, and Kaplan, Dallas Fed head, are to hold a speech. The Bank of Canada is to release its rate statement and benchmark interest rate figures.

On Thursday, Canada is to release its GDP monthly report, the U.K its construction sector output, Australia its building approvals, the euro zone its inflation figures, and the U.S. its initial jobless claims report. Loretta Mester, Cleveland FED President, will be giving a speech.

On Friday, the U.K will be reporting its service sector activity, Germany its retail sales data, and Japan its household spending and inflation figures. Moreover, Janet Yellen, FED Chair, is to give a speech in Chicago, Jeffrey Lacker, Richmond FED President, Stanley Fischer, FED Vice Chair, Charles Evans, Chicago FED President, and Jerome Powell, FED Governor are to hold speeches too.
