Weekly synopsis
The U.S. dollar dropped against the Japanese yen last Friday minimizing its five-day gains following the tensions in North Korea.
U.S. dollar and yen at 111.98
The USD/JPY traded at 111.98 declining 0.43% and was lower than Thursday's 112.70. The U.S. dollar index approached the 91.95 area and was stable.
The EUR/USD reached 1.1957 while previously approaching 1.2004, the EUR/GBP to 0.8847 rising 0.64%, and the GBP/USD at 1.3509 declining 0.53%.
Weekly major events
On Monday, Mario Draghi, ECB President, will be testifying about the euro region's economy, Haruhiko Kuroda, BoJ Governor, will be giving a speech in Osaka, Germany is to release its business climate data, and Charles Evans, Chicago President, and William Dudley, New York Fed President, are to give speeches.
On Tuesday, the U.S. will be producing its new home sales and consumer confidence figures, New Zealand its business confidence data, while Janet Yellen will give a speech in Cleveland and so are Lael Brainard and Neel Kashkari.
On Wednesday, Stephen Poloz, Bank of Canada Governor, will be delivering a speech and so will Lael Brainard, Fed Governor. The U.S. is to publish its pending home sales and durable goods orders data.
On Thursday, Germany will be releasing its inflation data, the U.S. its growth for the second growth and jobless claims, and the RBNZ will be announcing its rate statement and benchmark interest rate, whereas Haruhiko Kuroda, BoJ Governor, is to give a speech in Tokyo, and Mark Carney, Bank of England Governor, with Stanley Fischer, Fed Vice Chair, in London.
On Friday, the euro zone will be publishing September's inflation data, Canada July's economic growth, China its Caixin manufacturing PMI, Germany its retail sales, U.K its second-quarter growth and current account figures, the U.S. its spending and personal income data, whereas Mario Draghi will be giving a speech in London.
