London, May 9, 2018 - Humaniq, a decentralised financial platform for the unbanked, today announces it isexpanding the opportunities its app offers to five more African countries. The app, which currently has over 180,000 downloads in the Google Play store, is launching its wallet and messaging app for the unbanked population in Kenya, Republic of Cote d'Ivoire, Botswana and Ghana, bringing equitable access to financial services, cash transfers, and social programmes to ten African countries in total. Building on a successful ICO that raised more than $5.1m, Humaniq is also entering markets such as South Africa to develop a competitive mobile ecosystem.
The first members of Humaniq community in the five nations where launched in December - Uganda, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Rwanda - have reacted positively to Humaniq app’s сurrent features: secure messenger with E2E encryption, bio-identification, live support chat, and wallet, on Hybrid Blockchain, allowing Humaniq users to make small transactions with transaction fees close to zero. Now, people from five more African countries who are currently excluded from 21st Century financial services will benefit from socially-oriented Humaniq services designed to solve people's daily problems.
The expansion comes as Sub-Saharan Africa faces significant financial challenges: a lack of infrastructure has served to hold back the economic situation of these countries. Yet nonetheless in the three years to 2021 its economy is predicted to grow at a faster rate than the global average: mobile phone usage continues to increase and internet penetration is currently at 35.2%, testament to the changes sweeping the continent. Humaniq is working to harness technology in a way that benefits everyone - but knows technology cannot simply be exported to these countries without understanding how local economy currently functions..
This is why the app launch follows studies by the Humaniq team on the continent to gain a better understanding of unbanked people’s lives and needs which has revealed the causes underlying financial isolation and helped define the ways that Blockchain technology can improve the lives of millions. Humaniq held a ‘Global Challenge’ for startup projects to facilitate the development of new financial inclusion solutions aimed at helping the world's unbanked population. About 450 participants entered projects made especially for the Humaniq platform and three winners were selected for an expedition to Kenya and to meet the people who stand to benefit from new services, in order to to test and adapt emerging business plans based on hearing what citizens there want and need.
